I recently spent several days taking an inventory of every game I have access to across every system I own.  It turns out, I have almost two thousand games, and I’ve played…about two hundred of them.  Obviously, that means I have some work to do.  While I was creating my inventory, there were a few times where I stopped and thought, “Whoa, I haven’t played this yet?”, so I thought I would create a list of shame for myself.

I don’t just want to make a list and ignore it, however, so I’m setting a bit of a challenge for myself.  I’m going to come back to this list of games at the end of the year and see how many of these titles I’ve tried, and how many I’ve actually finished.  The challenge is to try and finish all ten.  Well, here’s the list of games I’ll be trying to play in the next few months!

The Witcher 3:  Wild Hunt

I’ve always believed that there is a holy trinity of fantasy RPGs that consists of Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, and The Witcher.  As a huge fan of the first two series in that list, it nearly constitutes a crime that I haven’t played The Witcher 3:  Wild Hunt.  I think the reason I haven’t gotten to this game yet is primarily my dislike of jumping into the middle of a series, but since I’ve recently decided to retire my attempts at finishing the earlier games, I plan to play this entry soon.

XCOM:  Enemy Unknown

Given how much I loved my playthrough of The Last of Us, and how much I love tactical titles like Disgaea, XCOM:  Enemy Unknown seems like a logical game to start playing.  Unfortunately, I only own it on console and not on PC, which is where I would prefer to play it.  Still, since I’m trying to save some money, I’ll probably give this a try on PC and see if I can get into it.

The Wolf Among Us

I’ve read the first few volumes of Fables, and I really enjoyed them.  Therefore, I was absolutely thrilled when The Wolf Among Us came out.  Unfortunately, I felt a little burned out on story-based games at the time because I had just played The Walking Dead, so I missed out on it.  Since the second season is coming out next year, now would be the perfect time to pick this one up and give it a try!

Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy X is my favorite game of all time, and most people that follow my content regularly know this.  Apart from this entry in the series, however, the only other one I’ve played is Final Fantasy XV, and that needs to change.  Since Final Fantasy VII is the game that everyone always talks about, I feel like I need to play it and see why everyone loves it so much.

Darksiders

Darksiders was never really on my radar until I realized that I own both entries in the series on PC and consoles.  With the third entry in the series coming out shortly, I want to give this series a try and see if it’s for me or not.

Dark Souls III

My brother is obsessed with the Dark Souls series and has been trying to get me to play a game in the series for ages.  I own several of them, but Dark Souls III seems to be a universally liked entry point to the series, so I’ll give this one a try.  I’m just a little afraid of the difficulty, as I’m not usually someone who plays on a difficulty higher than normal.

Heavy Rain

The main reason I haven’t played Heavy Rain yet is because of the voice acting clips I’ve seen on Youtube.  Those clips certainly don’t make the game look like it’s aged all that well.  Still, a lot of people claim that this game is phenomenal, and I love a good mystery.  I hope to get around to it soon.

Divinity:  Original Sin

Similarly to my argument for The Witcher and XCOM:  Enemy Unknown, how have I not played a tactical RPG set in a beautiful fantasy world?  I think I want to find a friend to play through this game with me, as I suspect I’d enjoy it more that way.  This game certainly has a strong single-player mode, but it’s weird to choose dialogue options for both of the playable characters.

Pillars of Eternity

Just like Divinity, Pillars of Eternity is a fantasy RPG that I was really excited for, and then never actually played.  I think it’s because I’ve heard there’s a crazy learning curve with this game, so I feel like I need to be in the right mood to play it.  Still, I’ll get there eventually and have a fun time!

Ori and the Blind Forest

Ori and the Blind Forest has one of my favorite gaming soundtracks of all time, and I’ve never actually played the game.  My main concern with this game is that I’ve heard it’s difficult, and I’m notoriously terrible at 2D platforming titles.  Still, I want to give this a try as soon as I get a chance.
