Sunshine Blogger Award From The Gaming Diaries

I’m terrible at responding to award nominations.  As soon as I get one, I make sure to put all the information I need in a drafted post, but then I kind of forget about it.  Today, I thought I would actually start catching up on my backlog by doing the Sunshine Blogger Award post that I got nominated for a while ago by The Gaming Diaries.  Here are the rules for this tag:

With the rules out of the way, let’s take a look at the awesome questions that The Gaming Diaries has come up with!

1. What is the game you are most looking forward to being released this year? (Any already released in 2019 don’t count)

I love any farming simulation title out there, and thanks to the popularity of Stardew Valley, I have quite a few titles in this genre on my wishlist with a 2019 (or possibly beyond) release date.  Here are just a few:

• Ooblets
• Village Monsters
• Farm Folks
• Stranded Sails – Explorers of the Cursed Islands
• Summer in Mara
• Robot Farm
• Alchemy Story
• Circadian City

None of these are released at the moment, but I fully expect to spend dozens of hours within all of them.

2. If you could cosplay as any character from any game who would you choose?

Without a doubt, Yuna from Final Fantasy X.  As a kid, I always thought I looked like her and I’ve always loved the dress that she wears.
3. What film, TV series or book would you like to see as a video game? (If any)

There have been multiple video games based on the A Song of Ice and Fire series, but I would still love to see an epic video game series that is akin to the titles in the Dragon Age series.
4. What game would you like to play for the first time again? A complete fresh start with no memories of playing it before.

Bioshock Infinite would be really neat to experience for the first time again because of its incredible plot twists.  The game never feels quite the same the second time around.
5. What was the first game you played this year?

The first game I played this year was Glass Masquerade, a beautiful jigsaw puzzle title.  I found that the art style is unlike anything I had seen before and it was a lot of fun.
6. If you could visit any in-game world, where would you choose?

Is none of them an acceptable answer?  Most of the video games I play involve a whole lot of people meeting unfortunate ends.  If I have to pick one, I would like to go hang out in Stardew Valley with the residents of Pelican Town.  Other than the fact that they live approximately five feet away from a deathtrap cave system, their existence is fairly danger-free.
7. Physical or digital copies of games?

I live in a small place with limited shelf space, so digital gaming all the way.  Additionally, I prefer PC gaming over anything else, and digital copies rule the market there.  At some point in my life, I hope to do a little physical copy collecting, but I don’t have the room for it right now.
8. What do you wish non-gamers could understand about gaming?

I would like people to have more awareness about how many different types of games there are.  When I talk about playing video games to non-gamers, I frequently get assumptions that I play Fortnite.  Since multiplayer titles aren’t my cup of tea at all, it’s hard to explain to people that there’s so much beyond the few experiences that leak out of gamer culture into the rest of the world.
9. How do you think you have changed as a blogger?

I have been blogging regularly for just under a year now, and in that time, I’ve gotten braver about just giving my true opinion without as much sugar-coating.  When I started writing, I was so afraid of sharing some of my opinions that are a little more controversial.  For example, I spent a long time debating if it was okay to admit that I didn’t really enjoy Persona 5 that much because I was afraid of what others would say.  Now, I’m doing a multi-part series where I discuss my experience with The Witcher 3, both good and bad, and I feel so much more comfortable openly sharing what I don’t like about the game.
10. Do you have any goals for your blog this year? If so, what are they?

I discussed this in more detail recently, but I’d like to return back to my initial goal when I started this blog, which is to boost up indie games.  There’s still going to be plenty of AAA and bookish posts because those are still a large part of who I am, but indie games are still a big part of my life and I want to make sure that I’m giving them the attention they deserve, both on my blog and on my other social media accounts.
11. What advice would you give people about blogging?

Don’t paint yourself into a corner with your content.  When I started blogging, I thought I couldn’t talk about all of my different interests and I would have to choose between gaming and reading content.  Over time, I started to realize that this isn’t the case.  Everyone has multiple hobbies in life and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with writing about all of them.
