Top 5 Books I’m Excited to Read Right Now!

Reading has always been a bit of a sporadic habit for me.  By the end of any given year, I have read dozens of amazing books, but I have a tendency to read in bursts.  Sometimes, I read twenty books in a single month, only to come across a long string of titles I don’t enjoy, causing me to subsequently not read anything for weeks.  At the moment, I’m in an upswing, as I have read a lot of books I absolutely adore.  Therefore, I thought it would be fun to participate in Top 5 Tuesday this week, hosted by the wonderful Bionic Book Worm, and talk about five of the books that I am most excited to read.  I guess this could be considered my to-read list for the month of November, although I’m definitely a mood reader, so my picks are always subject to change.  Let’s get on with the list!

The Toll

First off is my most anticipated release of the entire year, The Toll, which came out today!  I have written previously about how much I love the Scythe series, so I will be devouring this book as soon as I can grab a copy this weekend.  Series finales are always difficult to get right, so I’m a little nervous, but I have faith that Neal Shusterman is a talented author who can pull of a strong ending for an amazing YA dystopian series.

Maybe in Another Life.jpg

This year, I have read three Taylor Jenkins Reid books and given all three of them five stars.  In fact, I’m not even sure which one of the three will ultimately take the top spot as my favorite book of the year, but odds are high that the honor will go to one of them.  Since I’m enjoying her works so much, I want to keep reading them until I’m all caught up.  Of the ones I have left, Maybe in Another Life sounds most intriguing, as the central premise involves following multiple different timelines.  As someone who devoured Life is Strange last year, I will always be ready for any piece of media that investigates different outcomes and realities based on seemingly innocent choices.

Tale of Despereaux

I love reading children’s literature.  It has all of the same messages and themes as adult books, but they’re often more cheerful and optimistic.  Moreover, I’m also always interested in determining what makes something a good pick for kids.  The Tale of Despereaux is a book that I wanted to get to as a child, but never managed to pick it up.  Thankfully, I can now fix that as an adult and give it a try now.

Where the Crawdads Sing.jpg

I actually bought Where the Crawdads Sing on a whim, only to have it picked for my book club the very next day.  This was fortunate for both my wallet and my interests, as I have been meaning to read this for quite some time.  Honestly, I don’t know a ton about the plot and I don’t care, as I’m basing my enjoyment primarily on the Reese’s Book Club sticker.  Sometimes, it’s fun to go into a book knowing nothing and see what it turns out to actually be about!

Shadow and BOne.jpg

Finally, rounding off this post is Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.  I actually have two reasons for wanting to read this book.  First of all, everyone is gushing about how excited they are for the upcoming adaptation of Six of Crows, which is the spin-off series to the Shadow and Bone trilogy.  Therefore, I want to become familiar with the Grishaverse before I get spoiled.  Secondly, Bardugo’s latest book, Ninth House, just came out and it looks amazing.  I prefer to read books by authors in chronological order when I am interested in all of their works, so I need to read this initial trilogy before moving on towards the author’s newer stuff.  I haven’t heard great things about this trilogy on its own, but I know everything after it has been positively received, so I’m still cautiously optimistic that I will enjoy this.

Well, there are my top five books that I hope to get to soon!  They’re definitely at the top of my to-read pile, but there are probably thirty other titles that I’m excited to get to, as well, so who knows when I will actually read these?  Is there anything on this list that I should be prioritizing?  Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I still have my childhood copy of The Tale of Despereaux! I really liked it back then, but it’s been years since. It’s cool to see it pop up as something you’re looking forward to. I hope it still holds up as an adult. 🙂
