March 2020 Gaming Plans

This is going to be a good gaming month.  March is the start of the release season for me, as there are several new releases I’m excited about.  In addition to this, however, I have some ongoing playthroughs and indie titles that I’m excited to pick up, so let’s see what I’ll be enjoying in the coming weeks.

FFXIV

First of all, I’m continuing to slowly work my way through Final Fantasy XIV.  I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t play nearly enough of this game, especially since I have to pay a monthly subscription for it.  That said, however, I’m partway through the first expansion pack, and the story is really beginning to pick up.  Eventually, I’d like to write about my overall feelings for this game, but if I’m being honest, I’m still trying to sort them out, myself.  Let’s see how I feel after I play it for a few more weeks.

Fallout New Vegas

I’ve been doing a replay of Fallout:  New Vegas recently.  It’s been years since I last loaded up the game and I wanted to see if it still holds up.  So far, the gameplay aged like milk, as gunplay didn’t exactly feel smooth when the game initially launched a decade ago and now feels nearly broken.  That said, I can’t help but love it.  The atmosphere, characters, and world are just begging to be explored.  I’m probably not going to stop this playthrough until I have done everything I can possibly find in the Mojave wasteland.

Catherine

I am a huge fan of the Persona franchise, and since Persona 5 Royal is coming out at the end of the month, I wanted to get back into the general mindset of these games.  While Catherine isn’t quite the same, it has enough elements that it’s a good substitute while I await the end of the month.  So far, I love the social life sections and following the protagonist’s messy love life, but the puzzles can be a little frustrating.  I don’t hate them, but I would probably enjoy a visual novel with these characters that didn’t include the puzzle aspects, if I had a choice.

Titan Quest

On the list of games that I am currently playing and would like to continue on with, I would like to wrap up my playthrough of Titan Quest soon.  I’ve been working my way through this action RPG for at least six months.  Honestly, I’m not even sure I like it that much, but at this point, I’ve put enough hours into it that I want to see how it ends.  Hopefully, I can finish it off without too much trouble.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is my most anticipated game of the year.  Yes, I want to play this game more than Cyberpunk 2077 and the Final Fantasy VII remake.  I love the first title and I can’t wait to see how the story and gameplay elements progress.  In particular, however, I’m excited to play the soundtrack to this game on repeat for the foreseeable future, because the music will undoubtedly be the star of the show here.

Finally, I plan to clear my schedule to play Animal Crossing:  New Horizons when it comes out.  I haven’t played much of the prior games from this series, apart from a small attempt at the 3DS title that didn’t go overly well, but I’m in a place in my life where having a relaxing title that I can play before bed for a few minutes each night would probably be appreciated.  I haven’t watched any of the directs yet because I want to be surprised by what’s in this game and I can’t wait to pick it up.

While I doubt that this will be every game I put some time into throughout the month of March, I don’t want to overdo it.  This is still a pretty good list of titles.  What are you planning on playing this month?  Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Im so excited for new horizon !!! All the gameplay Ive seen so far is so 👀👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 I just want it right now!! I’m kinda relieved hahah after only enjoying new leaf, i was kinda scared i wasnt gonna like it (which, was the same with botw actually)

    1. I didn’t like New Leaf much, but at the time, I didn’t really see the point of a game that I could only play for a few minutes at a time. Now, however, I desperately want a game like that, so I’m really excited for it!

      1. When I first started playing, I did for HOURS 😂 having to recharge my 3ds constantly… now, I barely know how to do that ahaha

    1. I played Farm Together a fair amount when it first came out. It’s really great! I should probably get back into it, as I’m sure tons of new content has come out for it since I last played.

      1. I’ll take your word for that. I’m currently taking a break from Stardew Valley, even though that game just got some new content as well so this could be my next farming addiction.

  3. Ori is a fantastic game. I first played it on the Xbox Game Pass and loved it. Sadly I didn’t finish it before I let the subscription lapse but I intend to go back to it.

    1. I was really worried about jumping into New Vegas after so many years because I knew the combat wouldn’t age well. Turns out, however, I don’t really care. I’m having so much fun roaming the wasteland and seeing everything I can! I’m especially interested in finishing all four DLCs in order so I can see the full story of the courier. I’ve played all of the DLCS but Lonesome Road before, but out of order across different saves over the years. It’ll be nice to see them back-to-back.

  7. Ugh i still havent replayed my journey into New vegas since the first time i went into it lol. I need to get back into that. But while im stuck at home I went and bought Hunt: Showdown. Im prepared to be terrified and enraged once i die and lose my stuff all over again time after time….sigh.

    I Played FF14 for SOOO long but since i was solo i was suuuuuper slow at doing everything. I mained DK so queueing up for things wasnt a problem. But it was everything in-between that slowed me down lol. I paid for it for months without playing it. I eventually switch to SWTOR because the story quality was about the same but less complex albeit less freedom as well.
