There are so many video games to play and a relatively small amount of time to actually play them, so I don’t revisit my favorites nearly as much as I should. It’s always so tempting to keep moving forward with the next great experience, but taking a breather and relaxing with a title that’s familiar is like greeting an old friend. Here are five games and series that I want to replay, hopefully within the next year.

Borderlands 1 and 2
I wasn’t kidding when I said that it is a long-term goal of mine to play through every class in the Borderlands franchise at least once. Realistically, I would honestly love to play through all of the characters until they are max level. There’s something really addicting about trying different skill trees and figuring out what play-style I love most. In the coming years, there will be many rounds of Borderlands played, as well as plenty of posts discussing my likes and dislikes of each character class.
I played Sproggiwood earlier this year, and similarly to Borderlands, I quickly grew addicted to the different classes. There isn’t really any incentive to start from scratch with a completely new game, but I count replaying as maxing out the difficulty and beating every level as all six characters. While I am not normally someone who enjoys hard titles, the balance on savage mode makes this a really challenging experience that I can’t wait to dive into and conquer. The developers also went on to make another game called Caves of Qud that looks phenomenal, so I may use that as my carrot on a stick and purchase it after I have fully completed Sproggiwood.
The Mass Effect Series
When I say the Mass Effect series, I do mean that I want to play the entire original trilogy and Andromeda. There are so many alternative routes I could take in order to make my next playthrough different. I could try a Garrus romance instead of Kaidan, finally do a true renegade route, play as a class that isn’t adept, or just try playing on a higher difficulty. The possibilities are nearly endless and I suspect my next playthrough will hardly be my last.
Skyrim and Fallout 4
It’s kind of cheating to put two titles that are from totally different series in the same entry, but I have a good reason for it. I recently acquired the remastered version of Skyrim, as well as the game of the year version of Fallout 4, which means I have the ability to play the downloadable content for both of these titles for the first time. In addition to the fact that I just want an excuse to replay them both again, extra content for two of my favorite games can’t be anything other than amazing. I’m currently holding off on fully diving into either of these meaty RPG titles because I am still halfway through a playthrough of The Witcher 3, but I will probably be playing these simultaneously upon rolling credits on Geralt’s story.
Final Fantasy X
I can’t make a list of games I want to replay and not put Final Fantasy X on it. As I’ve spoken about in great detail before, this is my favorite game and will remain so forever. Even though there are titles that I probably enjoy more from an objective standpoint, Tidus and Yuna’s story has a nostalgic place in my heart that no other experience will ever be able to surpass. It’s actually so much fun to replay now that I have the PC version that allows me to use cheats because I can speed up the battles, increase movement speed, and ignore excess grinding that I have already done countless times before, allowing me to just have fun with the beautiful story. When I do eventually replay this, be prepared for an absolute barrage of posts from me with a million screenshots and lots of squealing about how much I love it.
Since I tend to favor lengthy RPGs, I have some work to do in order to actually replay all of these titles. The sad part here is that picking five series isn’t nearly enough to convey the amount of other games that I love and would like to revisit. Dragon Age, Kingdom Hearts 2, and Rogue Legacy are also all near and dear to my heart and deserve more attention from me in the future. Well, after I finish with this list, maybe I’ll need to do a follow-up for round two!
