I’m Back – Goals for 2023

Hey everyone! I know The Hannie Corner’s activity has been pretty hit-or-miss over the last few years. Throughout the end of 2022, however, I’ve been preparing to relaunch in a big way. I have a lot of big plans for 2023, and in order to reintroduce myself and discuss what I plan to do, I figured a list of goals for the year would help a lot. There are a few life goals I have that will influence the types of writing that I post here, so it makes sense to introduce the themes that will define my 2023. Here are the things, in blogging and in my life, that I plan to accomplish this year!

Write Consistently

This is one of the largest components of blogging, for obvious reasons. I need to get back in the habit of writing as much as I can manage. I’m hoping to publish something once or twice a week, but I’m not going to put a specific schedule up, as I don’t want to force myself to publish things I’m not excited about just to hit a deadline. While I do want to be more disciplined this year regarding my blog, it is still supposed to be fun and I don’t want to stress over it too much.

This goal will also likely entail a lot of updates to the layout and content contained within The Hannie Corner, but I plan to make a separate post at a later date detailing those changes. I still want to think a little more on what I would like to change to make this website most reflective of myself and my own interests.

Game Dev

For years, I’ve been saying that I want to learn more about game dev. On some level, I have had a little success, as I have successfully completed tutorials and made little prototype games. Ultimately, however, I really want to take it to the next level. I’ll write separately about the specific items I want to accomplish in my game dev journey throughout 2023, and I plan to make it a core part of what I write about. For now, however, I will just state that it’s going to become a large part of my life and is a part of the reason that I want to be more active on this website so I have a place to discuss game dev topics and hold myself accountable.

Make Time for Me

I am the kind of person that needs a creative outlet, and I haven’t had that in my life for a while. It can be hard to find the energy to do anything beyond staring at a wall after a busy day of being a grown-up, but I am determined to find a way to make it work. Between game dev and blogging, I hope 2023 is the year that I reclaim my creativity and am able to enjoy the act of making cool things, no matter what these cool things turn out to be throughout the course of the year.

Step Out of My Comfort Zone

I want to use 2023 to explore the media types and hobbies that I already enjoy. My plan is to create lists and challenges for playing games, reading books, and watching movies and anime that will allow me to try new things that I may not ordinarily tackle independently. A lot of these challenges will probably be more than I can tackle in a given year and I am not going to pressure myself to achieve 100% completion across all of them, but I am instead going to give myself meaty challenges that give me lots of options to grow and branch out depending on my mood throughout the year. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m really excited for it.

Tackle What I Already Own

Finally, my backlog of both video games and books is reaching a critical point of being overwhelming. Okay, it actually reached that point a while ago. I think I could just read and play what I already own for the next five years and not run out of things to do. I’m not going to completely give up on buying new books or games because that will never happen, but I am going to try to get as close as I can to only buying as much as I am able to play. At the end of the year, I do not want to have bought more games or books than I played and read. Let’s see if I’m capable of sticking to this plan!

There are my big goals! These are going to be primary talking points for my posts throughout 2023. For example, I will likely make updates on stepping out of my comfort zone and game dev, or write about changes being made to the website. I’m very excited to be back and writing again, and can’t wait to get started!
